Construction Navale Bordeaux realigns its operations around building multihulls
The Groupe Beneteau subsidiary Construction Navale Bordeaux is launching a proposed modification of its activity aiming for the Bordeaux site to specialize in the industrial construction of large multihulls. The production of the CNB Yachts brand’s sailing superyachts will be transferred to the Monfalcone site in Italy from September 2019.
In a buoyant market environment for the multihull segment, Groupe Beneteau pursues its objective of doubling its multihull production capacity (2016-2020). In line with this goal, it is launching its plans for Construction Navale Bordeaux to focus on building large multihulls for the Lagoon brand (world leader) and the EXCESS brand (released from September 2019). This specialization is expected to make it possible to increase production capacity and improve industrial processes in order to deliver operational efficiency improvements. The necessary conversion of the B5 building to accommodate the multihull activity will represent an investment of around 2.75 million euros over FY 2019-20, while the revenue growth linked to this increase in capacity is expected to reach around 10 million euros, with effect from
FY 2020-21. With the proposed modification of activities, there are plans for all the employees concerned to continue with their missions within Construction Navale Bordeaux, while a dozen additional jobs are also expected to be created over time.
The Monfalcone production site in Italy, where the Monte Carlo Yachts brand’s large motor yachts are currently built, will be taking on production for the CNB Yachts brand’s monohull sailing superyachts from September 2019. This Italian site is fully aligned with the requirements for this range of boats, because it offers flexible industrial capabilities, calibrated for producing luxury units requiring high levels of customization and small series. Thanks to its dockside location on the Adriatic Sea, the Monfalcone site will also make it possible to bring CNB Yachts’ boats closer to their customers, who sail primarily in the Mediterranean.
The proposed modification of activities at Construction Navale Bordeaux will be rolled out after consulting with employee representatives and in accordance with employees’ interests, which have always been taken into consideration as an important factor in Groupe Beneteau’s strategic choices.
